Irss noyau onuff5/20/2023 ![]() In at least 80% of patients with MSA, EMG of the external anal sphincter reveals signs of neuronal degeneration in Onuf's nucleus with spontaneous activity and increased polyphasia ( Pramstaller et al., 1995 Ravits et al., 1996 Schwarz et al., 1997 Palace et al., 1997 Tison et al., 2000a). Anal sphincter EMGs are generally better tolerated, and yield identical results ( Beck et al., 1994). Sixteen (62%) of tweny-six patients with probable MSA, and only one (8%) of thirteen with probable PD had a pathological EMG result. (1986) confirmed the presence of polyphasia and abnormal prolongation of individual motor units in MSA, and also examined the potential diagnostic role of sphincter EMG in patients with MSA and PD ( Eardley et al., 1989). Abnormality of the striated urethral sphincter EMG in MSA was first shown by Martinelli and Coccagna (1978). Due to degeneration of Onuf's nucleus, both anal and urethral external sphincter muscles undergo denervation and re-innervation. The external anal or urethral sphincter EMG is a common investigation in patients with suspected MSA. Furthermore, dopamine agonists are used in the treatment of restless legs syndrome, a disorder of dysfunction in spinal excitability ( Bara-Jimenez et al., 2000). In contrast, rats with lesions to A11 cell group and D3 receptor knockout mice show excessive locomotor activity ( Accili et al., 1996 Ondo et al., 2000 Clemens and Hochman, 2004). Barasi and Roberts (1977) found, in the rat, that dopamine directly increases the excitability of motorneurons. The effects of dopamine on somatic motoneurons in the ventral horn are less than clear, and both excitatory and inhibitory actions of dopamine have been reported. In the ventral horn of the lumbosacral spinal cord, the sexually dimorphic cremaster nucleus and Onuf's nucleus (and its rodent homolog) show much stronger immunoreactivity than other motoneuron nuclei ( Holstege et al., 1996 van Dijken et al., 1996).
